This is aerogel, also called ‘Frozen Smoke.’  It is composed of 99% air with the other percent being made up of silicon dioxide.  Aerogel is fireproof and also an amazing insulator.  NASA astronauts use this in their space suits to keep the harsh temperatures away from their bodies.  This invention can also hold it’s weight up to 4,000 times, which puts plain air to shame.
